Bowness is a town in the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England, on the southern shore of Windermere. Historically within Westmorland, it is situated just east of the A592 road and 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Kendal. The town has a population of about 3,000 people. Bowness consists mainly of one main street, numerous small shops and businesses with residential buildings side streets. Most local amenities are located along or near this thoroughfare including various hotels and pubs, two churches and an 18-hole golf course which can be viewed from nearly everywhere within the town itself due to its elevated location above the town.
